Life In The Mix
Let found-object jeweler Keith Lo Bue take you into the world of
submerging organic materials into pools of epoxy and polyester resins,
learning the tips and tricks to get fascinating and beautiful one-of-a-kind imagery.

SUPPLY LIST:

Note: If you are flying to the workshop, you won't be able to fly with the epoxy resins. You may want to plan on having your order shipped to the venue to meet you there.

Polyester casting resin (with catalyst) <here>. The brand isn't important as long as it says polyester casting resin, with catalyst included. The one linked to is a good one.

Epoxy 330 water-clear 2-part resin <here>. I prefer this brand to others for how we'll be using it. If you're planning on using it frequently, or have larger pieces to make, <here> are large bottles of it (much cheaper to buy that way).

Optional: Colores Doming Resin <here>. Great stuff, but you don't need it for the class. If someone brings it to class, I will demo it.

small mixing cups <Here's> a great value. At home in my studio I recycle plastic yogurt cups... But these are great because they've got measurements on the side.

popsicle sticks, or craft sticks. You'll only need about 15 or so, so you don't need to bring a whole pack. Find these at a dollar shop, craft store or <here>.

• about 15 toothpicks

a pin or sewing needle

matte knife, exacto blade, etc. I'll let you in on my little secret: <This> is the best cutting tool in the world, period. Just lettin' you know.

box/book of matches

paper towels

rubber gloves (if you don't want dirty fingers)

An assortment of glass lenses <here>.

DAP Kwik-Seal CLEAR caulk <here>.

some reuseable poster putty - any brand - find at an office supply store or <here>.

Organic materials! OK, the field here is WIDE open. Insects, leaves, berries, nuts, feathers, dried petals, pebbles, natural fabrics... THE ONLY RULE: Whatever you bring, it must be TOTALLY dried out - no freshly dead bugs or green leaves!!

Old paper - well, it doesn't need to be old, but book paper or handmade paper works beautifully. Bring an assortment of paper bits and pieces.

Found objects! Bring lots of bits and pieces - things with holes, insets, depressions, cavities, chambers - think of anything small that could potentially hold a viscous liquid. If it's not watertight, we'll seal it off in the class.
